Why I Became a Financial Advisor

As a registered investment advisor with 40+ years of experience in financial services, I’ve built my entire life’s career on managing and growing money for businesses and individuals.

I’m the president and founder of Blair Capital Management, a fiduciary, fee-only registered investment advisory firm. Although my company is based in Norwalk, Connecticut, I serve clients throughout the United States across all stages of life.

Today I’d like to share a little bit about how I got started in the financial services industry, the journey that led me to where I am today, and (most importantly) why I love what I do.

How I Started

My love for financial services took shape when I attended the University of Southern California (USC), where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a master’s in business administration. While at USC, I also completed graduate work in economics and philosophy.

How I Built My Career

After my college career, I immediately set my sights on Wall Street and ran the largest specialist post on the Pacific Stock Exchange. I moved to New York and became an equity trader with Salomon Brothers (the top firm on Wall Street at the time).

Then in 1990, a friend and I started our own hedge fund and named it Blair Manfredonia. After several successful years managing our hedge fund, I decided to transition to NatWest Securities, where I managed the company’s trading operations. While at NatWest Securities, I was promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer.

After my tenure at NatWest Securities, I worked at CS First Boston (which later became Credit Suisse). After rising through the ranks for 16 years, I moved on to my next venture. I decided I wanted to offer the experience and wisdom I’d gained to individuals instead of large firms.

Why I Started My Own Firm

In addition to desiring to utilize my four decades of financial knowledge on a more personalized level, I also wanted to avoid negative distractions and unnecessary meetings. More importantly, I knew that my ability to preserve and grow wealth would be more effective when focusing on people’s unique lives.

In 2022, I started my own firm, Blair Capital Management. Now free from organizational constraints, I’m able to manage my business without pushing proprietary funds or chasing sales quotas. My clients are the ultimate beneficiaries because I can tailor their portfolios to best suit their needs and consistently offer my professional recommendations with their best interests at heart.

I feel like I can finally say that I’m doing what I love on a personal and professional level.

Why I Love What I Do

Now that I have my own firm, I have the luxury of doing all my own research, which means I can lower clients’ fees and commissions. I care deeply about safeguarding and growing my clients’ wealth; I genuinely want to help them with their finances so they can focus on their passions (not their money) without worry.

I don’t plan on ever retiring. I love going to work every day, earning my clients’ trust, and building close relationships. It’s a win-win for everyone.

The Bottom Line

The combination of my love for finances, decades of experience, and a passion for growing my clients’ wealth sets me apart from my competition. My knack for successful investment management has taught me that through continual measurement of risk and reward, long-term success is obtainable.

After advising and achieving success at many top businesses in the financial industry, I’m thoroughly enjoying being a financial advisor to individuals and families, helping them pursue their own financial goals with confidence and—very importantly—preserving their private wealth.
